Children's rosary and Parish fast
Dear
Parishioner,
I’m back.
I had a lovely and quiet ten days in the delightful Trough of Bowland
(or near enough). English countryside at its very best.
I come back to the Fast! But before I get on to that, let me say
how pleased I was on the Saturday before I left, at the attendance at
the Children’s Prayers. There was a considerable congregation of
adults as well as the usual children. It is a most delightful
service and all of them enjoyed it. It is led entirely by Sister
Jennifer who invites the children to sit between the tabernacle and the
altar while the Blessed Sacrament is exposed on the altar. She
takes them through the rosary, explaining simply to them each of the
mysteries in turn, and inviting the individual children to read the
appropriate passage of scripture and lead the prayers. The
congregation answers the Hail Marys led by the piping voices of the
children.
It is of immeasurable benefit to the children. They learn to
respect and reverence the Blessed Sacrament; they are reminded of and
invited to pray about the major events in the life story of Jesus; and
they acquire a familiarity with the Rosary and learn a devotion to Our
Blessed Lady which will stand them in great stead for the rest of their
lives.
The Parish Fast, as you will remember from the Newsletters before I
went on holiday, is in response to the six and three-quarter million
abortions carried out in this country alone since the Abortion Act came
onto the statute books in 1967. We are trying, in our own small
way, to make atonement to the Giver of Life for the innocent lives that
have been wilfully destroyed, and to pray for that our society may come
back to its senses.
Without going into any disturbing detail of what abortion actually is,
the Children’s Prayers on the Saturdays throughout the Fast will be
offered for this intention. As I said before, the prayers of the
children, especially in this cause, will be powerful before God.
I encourage parents to bring them along.
Please pick up the sheet at the back of the church which gives further
information about the Fast and which invites you to share in it,
suggesting ways in which you can. And please take the trouble to
be part of the Postcard Campaign, needing you simply to put your
signature and address on the postcard available at the back of the
church and returning it. In all conscience we cannot sit back and
allow this proposed Human Tissues and Embryos Bill to get on the
statute books; we fought Hitler tooth and nail who was doing the same
kind of experiments on human beings.
May God bless and reward your
efforts.
