The Bishop writes:
My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I would be profoundly grateful to you if you would give attention to
two important matters at this time – namely, vocations and the National
Assembly Elections.
First, on this Good Shepherd Sunday, let us implore the Lord to help us
appreciate ever more that we are all called by God to a definite
purpose in our lives. Our Lord Jesus Christ, our shepherd, also
asks us to pray that the Father will send more labourers into the
harvest. Let us pray for more vocations to the priesthood and
religious life in Wales.
Secondly, I urge you to vote on 3rd May in the election of a new Welsh
Assembly Government. Please vote for the candidate who would best
develop human and Christian values in today’s complex society.
Since we are privileged to live in a democracy, we also have a
corresponding duty to vote responsibly.
God bless you all,
+ Edwin, Bishop of Wrexham.
Father
Jones writes:
Dear
Parishioner,
Today, at the 930am Mass, we welcome to the Parish our new organist and
choirmaster, Alex Williams. Alex is a young man, fresh from
college, where he studied music. He has agreed to be our
Choirmaster and to join Joan and Irek as organist.
As Choirmaster, he faces the challenging job of creating a new
choir. We have had a lot of false starts over the past few years,
and a lot of disappointments too; but we are so grateful to those who
have persevered and struggled hard to keep this musical tradition alive
in our parish. Music is a very real ministry in the celebration
of Mass, and can and does speak to our souls at a more profound level
than words alone can ever reach. So we are delighted to welcome
Alex as our new Choirmaster.
We will let him find his feet as organist for a few weeks before we
turn our attention and our efforts to the creation of a new choir,
which, to emphasise this new beginning, I would like to call our
Schola. When it is up and running, it will operate for the most
part at the Sunday morning Mass, when Alex will most often be
playing. If you would like to join this Schola, then please come
forward. In a congregation the size of ours there simply must be
lots and lots of people who can sing well enough to be in any
choir. Under Alex’s firm leadership and guidance, let us hope
that within a relatively short time we may have a Schola we can be
proud of, co-ordinated, disciplined, , and in harmony in every sense of
the word, ‘singing from the same hymn-sheet’. So, if you think
you can sing and are prepared to give up a bit of your time, go for it
– for the glory of God, for the delight and spiritual benefit of
parishioners and visitors, and for your own sheer enjoyment.
And to more mundane matters – Mr David Price has asked me to remind you
to collect your offertory envelopes and to start using them
immediately. There are still eight blue boxes to be picked
up. Your generous efforts with regard to Feed my Lambs have
reached the notice of the Editor of the Vincentian, the national
magazine of the SVP. A copy of the relevant page is on the
magnetic notice board at the back of the church.
God bless you,
Fr Antony Jones
