Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion
Dear
Parishioner,
Holy Week is upon us
once more. I needn’t tell you how much I hope you will take a
full part in the week’s very important ceremonies which recall the
great events of our salvation; the institution of the Holy Eucharist,
the saving Death of Christ and his glorious Resurrection.
At the Easter Vigil on Saturday at 730pm, in line with the ancient
practice of the Church, we will be receiving into Full Communion with
the Catholic Church those who have been prepared for it over the past
year, together with three children.
David and Olga Price’s new grandchild, William David Voice, will be
baptised. Young Jamie Evans, who is in the First Communion Class
at School but who will be on holiday when his classmates make their
First Holy Communion in June, will receive Our Lord for the first time
at this Mass. Grant Williams, in Year Six at Blessed William
Davies and an up and coming cricket and rugby professional, will be
baptised and make his First Holy Communion.
Stephen Ellis, a university student, will be baptised, confirmed and
make his First Holy Communion. Alan Williams, a young father of
two, will join his wife Fleur who was received into the Catholic Church
last year. He too will be received into Full Communion with the
Catholic Church, will be confirmed and receive his First Holy
Communion. So too will Bret Barrel, a young man who moved into
the parish a year or two ago from South Africa. Tricia Fenlon and
Debbie Evans, both young mothers, and Irene Ruddleston and Edith
McCaffrey, grandmothers and delightful members of our Catechumenate,
are all being received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church,
confirmed and will receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the
first time.
I wish to thank, on your behalf, the sponsors of these catechumens who
have devoted much time and energy during the past year, attending the
Catechumenate and supporting and helping the catechumens. But
while it has entailed a lot of work, the sponsors themselves tell me
that they have benefited enormously from the experience. We are
all grateful to them, for they have done a real service to the Church
of which we are all part. And we promise our new members our
total support and a share in our prayers.
We look forward very much to this ceremony on Saturday evening and hope
that you will be there to share the joy of the Church as she receives
into herself these new members. Year by year the numbers
attending the Easter Vigil have grown and year by year those attendees
have deepened their understanding and love of this very important and
delightful service. It is full of joy as the Church explodes with
the cry of Alleluia at the resurrection from the dead of her Lord and
Saviour.
May I remind all Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist that they
will be renewing their commitment to their very important ministry at
the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Thursday.
Apart from the main Ceremonies listed over the page, may I draw your
attention to the Chrism Mass at the Cathedral on Wednesday
evening? This is the Mass, celebrated by the Bishop and
concelebrated by all the priests of the diocese, when the priests renew
their dedication to the priesthood and when the holy oils, which will
be used throughout the year in the Sacraments, will be blessed.
Also, I would like you to remember and to take part in the Walk of
Witness on Good Friday. We meet up outside the Town Hall at
1130am, with the procession setting off at 1145am. At 12 noon, a
short service, with myself conducting it and preaching, will take place
in the grounds of Holy Trinity.
Congratulations to Bob and Margaret Lemon who are celebrating their
40th Wedding Anniversary today (Sunday). And to Sheila Johnson
who celebrates her eightieth Birthday. We wish them, with their
families about them, a truly wonderful time
On Monday, Councillor Brian Bertola will be speaking to the Union of
Catholic Mothers about the twinning of Llandudno with Wormhout.
Anyone wishing to attend, what will most certainly be an interesting
talk, will be very welcome.
God bless you,
Fr Anthony Jones
