FEED MY LAMBS -
BIRTHDAYS
Dear Parishioner,
Following the great success of the Feed
My Lambs Christmas Gift Cards, I have come up with an
idea! Feed My Lambs Birthday Gift Cards!
Mandy has produced a stunning card which I am sure you will like.
They will very soon be available in the repository.
The Card is entitled FEED MY LAMBS
and under a striking picture of an African mother and child are the
words:
On your Birthday – A gift to you, a gift to them and a gift to God.
The inside page reads:
On your behalf I have given
£36 to the Feed My Lambs Scheme
Our Lady Star of the Sea,
Catholic Church, Llandudno.
This sum will feed one starving Sudanese child for a whole year.
There are two other variations. The ten pound donation card says that
it will feed a starving child for fifteen weeks; the twenty pound one
says for thirty weeks.
On the facing page are the words:
May the blessings which will flow
from this gift enrich your Birthday
and rest upon you and upon all
whom you love now and for ever.
Talking about the Repository,
let me remind you that it is now located in the old confessional and is
open after all three Masses at the weekend. It is not open before
these Masses in order to preserve an atmosphere of silence in the
church. It is important that those who come early to Mass find an
environment conducive to prayer.
The Repository has a variety of goods, including the Revised English
Bible, a version I particularly recommend, both for its modern and
accurate translation and for the beauty of its English.
The Car Park combination number changes
tomorrow (Monday). Mr Brian Sweeney has asked me to remind you to
display your permits on the dashboard so that we know who is parking
legally and who is not. Over the past six months the gate has
been left open more often than it has been locked. I know it is a
bind to have to get out of your car and lock the gate after you, but it
is for the benefit of us all. Unless we do, the scheme won’t
work. If it’s bouncing down with rain, perhaps and exception can
be made!
On Wednesday, at 7:30pm, there will be a special Mass in church for the SVP, though
Mass is always open to everyone and you would be most welcome. In
fact, I would encourage you to come, to give your support to the SVP
and the work they do for the Parish, and in this particular instance to
give your encouragement to Mr Toni Fossi and your thanks to Mr Mike
Darby.
After ten years service as President of the local Conference of the
SVP, Mr Mike Darby is handing over the reins to Mr Toni Fossi. We
thank Mike for all the good work he has done, both at Parish and at
District level, and wish him well for the future as he continues to
work with the SVP but now relieved of the responsibility of
presidency. Toni, recovered, thank God, from his recent illness,
takes on the job enthusiastically; we wish him well and promise him the
support of our prayers. The Mass on Wednesday will be the formal
commissioning ceremony installing Toni as the new president. It
will be followed by a party at Stella Maris.
There were two mistakes in last
week’s Newsletter. You will agree that that is a very
unusual occurrence. The first was that Mrs Marie Crossland had
her surname omitted, and you must have spent half the Mass wondering
who this Mrs Marie is. I was telling you that she, together with
Mr Stephen Watson, is joining up with Sr Jennifer in the training of
the Altar Servers. We are really grateful to both of them, for
what Sr Jennifer has achieved in this parish with regard to the serving
is quite outstanding and must be carefully preserved.
The second mistake in last week’s Newsletter was to give you the wrong
date for the children’s First Confession. It is Saturday,19 May
at 10am. Already the children from the non-catholic school sector
are preparing for this Sacrament and their First Holy Communion.
I called over to Stella Maris last Monday afternoon and found them hard
at work.
God bless
you, Fr Antony Jones
