Dear Parishioner,
This week, we extend a very warm welcome to the Amici del Canto Choir who will be
attending the 5:30pm Vigil Mass on Saturday December 2nd and
accompanying it with the singing of one of Byrd’s Mass settings.
They will be staying on afterwards for a short concert for those who
may wish to remain for it.
You will remember that they came earlier in the summer and made a huge
impression on all who heard their concert. As you leave the
church after the Vigil Mass you will be able to make an offering for
the choir, which is predominantly young and certainly up and
coming.
Last week, I suggested in my Newsletter that instead of buying
Christmas presents for some of our friends and family, we might like to
make a donation to the Feed My Lambs campaign instead.
Ruth Mawdsley has come up with a good idea – that we should produce a
Christmas card that you can send to your friends expressing what has
happened to their usual Christmas present!
I’ve been working on it, and Mandy and I are now in the process of
producing such a card. This is what it will say:
On your behalf,
I have given £____
to the Feed My Lambs scheme
at Our Lady Star of the Sea
Catholic Church, Llandudno.
This will feed ____starving
Sudanese children
for a week.
“Whatever you do to the
least of these, you do to Me”
says the Lord.
May the blessings which
will flow from this gift
rest upon you and upon all
whom you love,
this Christmas and for ever.
With my love.
You would sign it and so would I, to verify your gift and to fill in
the blanks. The cards will be beautiful and you can have them
free. They will not only solve some of your Christmas Present
problems but serve as Christmas cards too. The cards will be
available in the sacristy; you can pick them up whenever I am there to
sign them.
While thanking you for your outstanding generosity to Sr Jean and to
the Babies, I mustn’t forget to thank you also for your faithfulness to
the Little Red Boxes which many of you have in your homes for the
Missions. I’ve lost the little bit of paper Mafi (Pat Kelly) gave
me indicating how much you contributed last year. I can’t
remember exactly, but it was near enough to £600. So I
thank you, and I thank Mafi for the valued and ongoing work she does in
this field.
We look forward to our Parish Christmas Lunch this Thursday. As
usual, it will follow the noon Mass and will continue through into the
afternoon with games and entertainment. The Bingo Caller is on
top form and there are loads of prizes – as always. There are far
more going this year than ever, but if you want to come and haven’t yet
got a ticket, maybe Pat Butler could squeeze you in. But you
would need to see her.
The Gift Aid Scheme brought into the parish this week a cheque for
£2,402. This is most welcome and I am very grateful to all
who participate in it. The Finance Committee will be having more
to say to you about this in the near future.
Father Andrew bids us farewell this weekend for the second half of his
summer holidays. I’ve told him that if he meets Mr Bush he is not
to give him my regards. I wouldn’t want Fr Andrew to be telling
any lies!
God bless you,
Father Antony Jones
