2006
Dear Parishioner,
Next Saturday, at the Vigil 530pm Mass, we will celebrate our
twice-yearly Mass for the Sick. The first of these two Masses is
the Sunday closest to the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, the second,
closest to the Feast of Our lady’s Assumption. This Mass is meant
for the “Walking Wounded”, those who are up and about but feel the need
of this wonderful Sacrament. The sick and housebound receive this
Sacrament on a regular basis. It will be followed by refreshments
at Stella Maris.
The Feed My Lambs scheme has far and away exceeded our
expectations.
During July we raised £912!! This translates into raising
£182.40 per week (there were five Sundays in July). And
£182.40 feeds 260 babies a week. So we will feed 260 babies
for five weeks from the monies you gave during July. Thanks and
congratulations.
When you remember that our original aim was to feed sixty children a
week, you can see just how far we have exceeded that target.
So we must therefore raise our target from 60 to 260. Our aim must be
to go on feeding at least this number of children. So we set a
new target of £182.40 a week to feed 260 babies.
The target can only go up! We will not allow one-off gifts to
affect it, but if consistently we over-reach our target, we will
happily raise it again.
And so I hope it will continue - more reward and grace for you, more
babies full of bread and milk, more relieved and contented
mothers. The crashing of the coins dropping into the churn in the
aisle of the church translates into the delighted cries of grateful far
away Sudanese mothers as they see their threatened babies being
properly fed and nourished. A blessing on them and a blessing on
you. Just keep on being as generous as you have been; or, if
humanly possible, even a little bit more so.
The Display Board this week will show pictures of the International
Mass. If your want copies, what you do is this: Contact
Stephen Watson on 872335 and buy form him a CD for £1. Take
this CD to Boots or Jessup’s and they will display its contents on a
screen for you to see and choose which pictures you want
printing. The size and the quality of the print will then be
entirely up to you. It is a good and simple scheme which will
work well. We are grateful to Stephen for this service to the
Church.
Father Andrew took himself off on Friday to the USA for his
holidays. He will be away for just over a fortnight. We
wish him a good “vacation”.
I asked you to pray for the success of our English Lesson
Classes. Well, hold on. If you keep on praying like that,
we will not be able to cope! Twelve turned up the first evening –
then you prayed - and over thirty came the next time! We are
really delighted with the response these lessons are receiving and feel
we are providing a real service. I am very grateful for Sr Mary’s
help. I have already received offers of help from parishioners
experienced in teaching English to foreign students should the numbers
get any greater. The evenings are very relaxed and enjoyable and
if you know of anyone who would benefit from this service, please point
them in this direction.
God bless you,
Fr Antony Jones
