Dear Parishioner,
Feed my Lambs.
We aimed at raising £40 last week to feed our sixty adopted
babies, but we raised £450! That was a truly fantastic
effort.
We cannot, of course, expect this kind of response every Sunday, but it
does point to how much you have taken the scheme to your hearts.
It would also seem to indicate that we will be able to raise our
projected 60 babies to perhaps a hundred.
I will give you a monthly report, telling you how much we have raised
in the month and how many babies that money will feed in the month to
come.
Just for the record, the response last Sunday was such that 642 babies
could be fed for a week.
It is obvious that such a scheme will be understood and appreciated
also by the children of our parish, and the School is getting
involved. Each class will make their contribution, and it is
hoped that a member from each class will bring their collection up with
the offertory procession at the Sunday morning Mass. So, thank
you all very much for responding so magnificently.
Language Lessons
Now, from foreign children in need in distant parts to foreign
grown-ups in need in our own parish. Actually, the word “foreign”
there is inaccurate. In the Church, there are no foreigners, we
are all brothers and sisters and members of the household of God.
The need I am speaking about is the need to learn English. Many
of our new parishioners are unable to speak the language
fluently. So we are proposing to help them. Sister Mary
Ross of Loreto and I are teaming up to give English lessons on
Thursday evenings from 730pm to 9pm at Stella Maris. Obviously,
with a scheme like this, it will have to be on a trial basis to start
with. It is aimed to give our new parishioners enough English to
enable them to settle and to develop their own language skills for
themselves. I am very grateful to Sr Mary for being willing to
run this course with me. If you can help these persons who may
well not read or understand this Newsletter to know what is happening,
you will do them a great service.
Walking 450 miles
Bishop Edwin will be on holiday from 18 July to 22 August. It
will be a holiday with a difference. He proposes to walk the 450
miles from Pamplona in Spain to the famous shrine of Santiago de
Compestella. Brave man indeed. He invites you to join him
in prayer for the Diocese. There are sponsor forms at the back of
the church if you would like to get people to sponsor him. What
money is raised will be shared between the costs of renovating St
Mary’s Cathedral in Wrexham and for Aids relief in Lesotho, Africa, the
country to which the Diocese is twinned. We thank Pat Fyfe who
has already taken such a form and raised £33 for the cause.
Leavers’ Mass
The School term is coming to its close and we extend our thanks to the
teachers, governors and staff of the school for all they have done over
the year. On Thursday at 930pm we will be having our traditional
School Leavers’ Mass, when we pray for those leaving Blessed William
Davies for higher things. You would be most welcome to join us.
God bless you,
Fr Antony Jones
