Dear Parishioner,
PENTECOST.
The day the Holy Spirit, sent by the Risen Christ, first came upon his
Church. The Spirit of truth, the Spirit of love. The Spirit
that inspired the Apostles to preach the good news of Jesus Christ to
the whole wide word, and gave them the power to speak in everyone’s
language.
Come Holy Spirit, says the ancient prayer, fill the hearts of your
faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth, O
Risen Christ, your Holy Spirit, and all things will be created afresh.
The Holy Spirit
is the Searcher of heart and mind; he knows us as we do not know
ourselves. The prayer does not specify what it wants the Spirit
to do. The Spirit knows; enough for us that He comes.
Today we celebrate our International Mass at 9:30am when members of our
parish family, hailing from different cultures and speaking different
languages, will join together to express the diversity of our Catholic
Church. Wonderful unity in wonderful diversity, reflecting the
One God who makes himself known in one faith yet in a million ways.
Last Saturday, the children made their First
Confessions at a lively yet devout and serious penitential
service geared to their age and needs. They look forward now to
making their First Holy Communion on 18 June.
This Thursday, at 7:30pm, the children to be confirmed will meet at
Stella Maris with their parents and sponsors. Every Catholic in Year 8
is invited to receive the Sacrament. The only condition is that they
attend the four sessions leading up to it. These will be led by
me and will be on 8, 15, 22, and 29 June at 7:30pm at Stella
Maris. It is very important that the parents and sponsors attend.
Grandparents, who play a huge role in the formation of their
grandchildren, are especially welcome to attend the sessions. The
Celebration of Confirmation
will be at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, 4 July.
The proposed parish visit to Shrewsbury Flower Show on Friday 11 August
has been cancelled. There were insufficient names to justify a
coach reservation. However, Alpine of North Wales are operating
their own coach from Llandudno on the same day, leaving Trinity Square
at 8:00 am. Their price is £12.50 and reservations can be
made at their office on the corner of Trinity Square. Many thanks
to those who did put their names down to go – we are sorry we were not
able to oblige.
Last Monday, the UCM held a Coffee Morning in aid of the Air Ambulance
Service in Wales. They raised £175.95 for this good cause,
and wish to thank all who supported it.
The Annual Pilgrimage to Saint
Winefride’s Well in Holywell will take place this year of Sunday 25 June and will be led by
the Bishop. The procession begins from the church at 2:30 pm and
will be followed by Mass in the Well Gardens at 3:00 pm
God bless you,
Fr Antony Jones
