Dear Parishioner,
I had a very pleasant holiday in Italy and now I am glad to be back
with you. What a beautiful country Italy is, what a lovely language,
what excellent food and beautiful wines - but what dreadful drivers
they are! Wow, it needs to be experienced to be believed! But,
although it seems a contradiction, they must be good drivers really. It
would be impossible to drive so chaotically and get away with it, if
you were not actually in complete control of your vehicle!
There’s a sermon there somewhere!
Fr Andrew’s Induction
So, I’m back in time for Fr Andrew’s Induction on Tuesday, as the
new President of Llandudno Cytun. He comes to the job, which
brings honour to him and to the parish, with much enthusiasm and lots
of good ideas. It carries a lot of responsibility, so please keep
him in your prayers in this regard through the coming year. And,
of course, you will be in church on Tuesday evening, won’t you, to show
him your complete support? As Fr Andrew takes on these
responsibilities, the Rev Pam Wright lays them aside. We thank
her for the excellent work she has done this year for the cause of
Christian Unity within our local community.
Welcome to Andrew Roberts
We welcome to our Parish today another Andrew, this time Andrew
Roberts. If we call the one Father Andrew and the other simply
Andrew, then maybe we won’t get too confused.
He is already well on the way to the Priesthood, studying at present at
Wonersh College in the south of England, and will be with us for three
weeks to gain first hand experience of parish life. It is
important that he visits the schools, both Blessed William Davies,
where I am chaplain, and Blessed Edward Jones at Rhyl, where Fr Andrew
is chaplain. He will also visit the hospital and the hospice;
take communion to the sick; and visit the homes. I only hope he
doesn’t think he is coming to sunny Llandudno for a holiday! He
is a fine young man with a Wrexham accent and a good sense of
humour. He is most welcome and I know you will make him feel so.
The Culture Mass on Pentecost Sunday
I have often expressed to you my joy at the enrichment given to
our parish by the presence among us of so many people from so many
different cultures and languages, yet sharing fully with us our
world-wide Catholic Faith. This is cause for real celebration,
which is precisely what we propose to do on Pentecost Sunday.
It was at Pentecost that the Holy Spirit came down on the Apostles and
gave them the power to speak in the languages of all the nationalities
that had gathered in Jerusalem for the feast. The Catholic
Church, as she preaches the risen Christ to the world of today, speaks
still in all those languages and brings us together into the one family
of God.
To remember this, and to celebrate it, we intend, as we did once
before, to have a very special Mass on Pentecost, when we invite
members from the different ethnic groups that make up our parish family
to take part in the Mass in their own language. This is taking
some preparation, as you would expect, and we have already had one
meeting to this end last Thursday. This is to be followed by
another meeting this Wednesday at 730pm. I really encourage those
concerned to attend.
First Confessions
This Saturday at 10am prompt. The Service will give the
parents as well as the children the opportunity of receiving the
Sacrament. This is of huge importance psychologically to the
children and I hope many parents will take the opportunity.
God bless you,
Fr Antony Jones
