Fr Jones’s Newsletter - Sunday 28 December 2008

Dear Parishioner,

As always, I was quite overwhelmed by Christmas this year.

Overwhelmed by the charity you showed me: so many cards, so many gifts, so many gestures of loving kindness.  And I am sure Sr Jennifer would say exactly the same.  Thank you so much.

Overwhelmed by all the work so many of you put into the church to get it ready for the Feast: work with the flowers, the Christmas tree, the brasses, the leaflets and so many other things.

Overwhelmed by the willingness of altar servers (and their parents) to come to the practices for the Mass readings.

Overwhelmed by your attendance at the Christmas services, especially the Children’s.  And my thanks to them for building our crib.

On the Sunday before Christmas someone remarked to me that the church was like a nursery, so many were the toddlers who were there.  This pleased me more than anything.  A very good start to our Parish Year of the Child and our determination to bring the children back to the Mass.

Overwhelmed by your generosity to the poor.  Last Sunday £356 came in for Feed My Lambs!  One couple from the parish redirected gifts meant for a jubilee they were celebrating into the Feed my Lambs funds. Money also came in for the local poor, including a generous cheque from the UCMW.

For all this, and much more, please accept my sincere thanks.

And I express my thanks on behalf of the Parish for the attendance of the Amici del Canto Choir at our Midnight Mass and the Carol Service which preceded it. The beauty of their accompaniment added enormously to the enjoyment of  the Mass by

those who attended it.

And while I express my delight in our visiting musicians, let me thank also our own organists and those faithful few who continue to keep the choir in existence.

Thank you to John Kennerley who has accompanied the 530pm Mass for several months now and many a funeral and wedding too.  We are delighted to add him to our tally of organists.  We thank Irek who plays so faithfully at the 930am Mass every Sunday Morning and at the monthly Polish Mass.  And now that the Welsh Mass is reappearing, we welcome back, with open arms, our faithful Joan, who will accompany the 530pm Vigil Mass, leaving John to cope with the Welsh Mass (which he always does so admirably well!)

God bless you,
